The story behind "Stories"

Stories is my debut singer/songwriter album (you can listen to it here), in which I arranged everything you will hear on the album. This ranges from vocals, instrument playing, mixing/mastering, and even the artwork. It was a complete independent release. I recorded this album after years of writing songs, with the intentions of being able to move on and better myself as a musician/person. Since then, the album has been accepted by Pandora radio, and has boosted my social media presence ten fold. I figured now that I have someone's attention, I can use this to my advantage and hopefully teach someone something in this article.

Whether or not you consider yourself a creative person, you always can be. That would be like me saying I'm not an athletic person, and it's really just me not exercising. Think of creativity as a part of the brain that you have to train, and exercise. The more you create, the more you will learn about it and want to create more. I want this to be a musician-friendly guide, where I share a story and hopefully spark some inspiration in your creative minds. I want people to realize that they are capable of creating marvelous things. Whether it be a poem, painting, song, or even just a melody. Happiness can derive from creativity, and by using emotion as fuel, you can become one lean mean creating machine.

Alright… The story behind my debut album "Stories"! This article will contain information on the background of the album, the gear I used for each song, the days I recorded and mixed/mastered the album, how I got the album on Pandora and Spotify, and more!

The future of this blog, and songwriting tips?

Quick update you guys, this blog is going to be dedicated to talking about music. Don't worry, I'll still be updating it with my projects and whatnot. I just really want to explore the music eWorld and hopefully meet some cool people along the way. Expect artist interviews, talking about songs, supporting smaller artists, etc. But for now, I'm going to get to the "songwriting tips?" part. The "?" is there because I can't help everyone in this category. You have to get writing done on your own.

Writing songs. What is it? Well, it's writing. Like, songs. Some people ask me about my songwriting process and if I could help them some how. It's really difficult to say "I can help you." but it really changes with each person. I like to think of it as the following:
Get into a flow > sit down > write a song based off what you want it to be about

I guess the problem for most people is not getting into this "flow", and not knowing what to write about.

"Stories" is done!

It's done! The entire album has been released on every major music platform! Links will be provided below. I just want to thank everyone who helped me out with this again, all of you who bought/pre-ordered the album, even just listening to it. You're all the reason I feel comfortable doing all of this.

EDIT: It's on Pandora now, too! Yay! Go check out the station!

Thank you all again,
Jordan

Album release date, and more!

Hey y'all, Jordan here! Going to give you some news regarding the album and some other things I'm working on as well.

My album "Stories", will be available on October 16th, 2012. That's only 15 days! It'll be available for preorder on October 9th on Bandcamp and iTunes. It'll also be on Spotify, Amazon, and pretty much everything else on release day, so be ready to make some new playlists!

Recording day 1, and my first cover!

Hey all, big news! Yesterday was my first day of recording! I was able to get one song done, minus vocals, and I'm mixing it all together tonight. It sounds magnificent so far, and I really can't wait for you all to listen to it. I start recording again on Monday, and hopefully I'll be able to start vocals within a couple weeks. Going to be fun.

Also, if you haven't seen it yet, I uploaded a cover! Oddly enough, it was in the bathroom of The Fox Theater Pomona, but the acoustic in there were amazing. Totally worth being the weird dude in the corner of a bathroom singing. It's an acapella cover, check it!
